An upcycled display case can give your living room the perfect vintage winter look you’ve always wanted.
Winter is upon us again, and it’s time for me to update my living room décor. I want to re-paint the white display case I bought a few years ago and create that vintage décor style I’ve always wanted. Here’s how I do it.
Choose your colors
I chose Old Oak, which is similar in tone to other pieces of furniture in my living room. This color has that vintage warmth and elegance about it that I want on my display case.
Choose your paints
The paint I chose for my display case is from iLux Multi Eggshell, a collection of eco-friendly paints from Samhwa. I like this collection because its products are designed to be waterproof in everyday settings. You can paint them easily on moisture-prone doors, furniture, or kitchen countertops and forget about water staining or infiltrating the painted layers.
Paint your furniture
Paint rollers allow you to apply the paint smoothly along relatively broad surfaces.
Soft-bristled paint brushes are perfect for painting smaller and uneven surfaces, such as trim, handles and knobs, because the bristles prevent the paint from splashing onto the surrounding surface.
First, I dipped my paint roller in the Old Oak paint and began painting the surfaces of my display case. The process was pleasant and easy because iLux paints, like Old Oak, have almost no odor because they are made of eco-friendly materials.
I painted the knobs, corners and edges using the soft-bristled brush.
I took a brief break while the paint dried. iLux paints tend to dry really fast, so I didn’t have to wait for more than an hour after applying the first coat. I would recommend that you wait a bit longer after applying the second or final coat. The smooth paint spreads easily on any surface and instantly dries into a matte finish.
Now that my display case is done, I can place all my favorite décor items in it. I gave it lace curtains, vintage figurines, an antique-style watch, and a chess board. With iLux paints, you can improve the looks of your old furniture like a pro. Go on, give it a try!
