Thinking about redoing your boy’s bedroom? Here’s a fun inspiration.
PAINT X PEOPLE, a special Samhwa Paints collaboration program launched in partnership with art gallery PXP to mark the company’s 74th anniversary, is already now into its third project. The latest project involves painting the bedroom of two boys—the sons of illustrator Sungmin Jo.
This is a great opportunity for anyone looking for ideas around children’s décor.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to the entire transformation.
“Fun walls” as the main theme
This room is shared by the two Jo boys. The pirate skull you see on the door is made of Perler beads, put together by the boys themselves. The starting idea for the project involved imagining a big round moon bouncing along the white walls in the room, leaving visible marks of its trajectory in the process.
A moon decal, available at IKEA®, was attached to the wall with the painted trail of its movement bringing life to the plain white surface, turning it into a canvas for creativity.
Choosing the colors
We wanted vivid colors that would “pop” next to the moon decal to add to the sense of movement and rhythm. The final choices were Alice Blue and Sunrays.
Choosing the paints
iLux Multi Flat paints from Samhwa are perfect for kids’ bedrooms as they’re odor-free and dry quickly. These eco-friendly paints, certified against atopic dermatitis and other allergic reactions, were designed specifically for use on interior walls and over wallpaper.
Painting process
The outer edges of the moon trail were finished with a green pencil crayon to give them an “illustrated” feel, like the lines you would find in a children’s book.
Tips on decorating children’s rooms
The boys’ favorite things, such as their guitar (which they began learning to play), a robot figurine, and a map of Jeju Island drawn by the boys themselves were displayed in one corner to make the space their own. Displaying some of the children’s favorite things is a great way to make the space feel cozier and more welcoming to the kids.
