Colors of March #Putsagwayeondusaek #Pureunkkumsaek
As part of the celebrations for its 75th anniversary, Samhwa Paints has given a native Korean name to each month of the year and also selected the colors representing each month. The time has come for Samhwa to reveal its name and colors for the month of March.
Samhwa named the month of March Muloreumdal, which means “a month when water returns to mountains and fields.” As the harsh cold of winter ends and ice begins to thaw, March becomes the month of new life for everything. Putsagwayeondusaek (“Baby Apple Green”) and Pureunkkumsaek (“Blue Dream”) are therefore natural choices for this month.
The first image that comes to mind when we think about the beginning of spring is that of pale green buds sprouting from the ground or tree branches. March is also the month of new beginning in Korea, as that is when the new school year starts. The Covid-19 pandemic has meant a huge interruption to education and learning in Korea throughout the past year. Putsagwayeondusaek captures the hopes and anticipation we hold as we start a new school year, reminding us of our innocent and merry childhood.
Greens like Putsagwayeondusaek symbolize nature, relaxation, and soothing. You will find these colors particularly attractive if you want to brighten your home with a bit of spring now that everything is on the cusp of a new beginning. Light greens like Putsagwayeondusaek are refreshing and energizing just to look at.
If you gravitate toward green hues but find dark green difficult to apply to broad surfaces or wide areas, you might find Putsagwayeondusaek all the more appealing as this lighter color is suited to larger areas. Painting a room with this shade will make it warmer and more refreshing at the same time. We especially recommend it as a gender-neutral color for kids’ rooms.
Pureunkkumsaek represents our optimism and expectations for new things to come. With the arrival of March, most frozen streams thaw and begin to flow again amid warmer breezes. The warm midday sun sparks green growth in all corners, and the color of the sky itself seems softer and warmer. Pureumkkumsaek is a color that encapsulates our hopes for good things to come amid the arrival of spring.
Blues like Pureumkkumsaek activate our parasympathetic nervous system, calming our breathing and pulse. They are favorites for bedrooms because that is where we unwind and recharge for the next day.
You can use Pureunkkumsaek with midrange colors like pale green and purple, as these too are soothing and calming. If they look a little too “cool” for you, put flowers or other decorative objects to add warmth to your space. These cool colors are also recommended for offices and studies because they have the power to sharpen concentration.
