Colors of November: #Gipeunsupsaek and #Kkumkkuneunbamsaek

As part of the celebrations for its 75th anniversary, Samhwa Paints has given a native Korean name to each month of the year and also selected the colors representing each month. Samhwa is ready to reveal its name and colors for the month of November.

Samhwa has decided to name the penultimate month of the year Miteumdal, which means “the month that rushes its way from fall to winter.” With fall foliage at its peak now, Samhwa has chosen Gipeunsupsaek (“Deep Forest”), a clear contrast to the warm hues of leaves, and Kkumkkuneunbamsaek (“Dreamy Night”), capturing the color of the night sky as it continues to deepen with falling temperatures.

The fall forest shines in all its richness of color as though it might keep winter at bay by its beauty. You’re lured by the glamorous colors of fall foliage under the crystal clear fall sky to venture ever deeper into the forest. There you realize that the tall evergreens in the heart of the woods haven’t lost their color a bit and stand in striking contrast to the fall foliage outside, boasting their sober green. The color of the deep forest in autumn is nothing like the promising, refreshing green of the two previous seasons.

Greens like Gipeunsupsaek, taken straight from nature, relax our nerves and bodies and soothe our tired minds and souls. Green, when applied in excess to interiors, can come across as either outdated or too abstract. When applied with moderation and skill, though, deep green hues add a sense of stability and calm to any space in the home, including bedrooms and the living room. Deep greens also suit the modern fashion of today’s interior styles. We strongly recommend Gipeunsupsaek for unique elegance in your kitchen. The color is also perfect for furniture. If you’d like to bring this color into your bedroom, we suggest you paint only one wall with it for added depth.

As the days shorten and nights grow longer, the night sky seems to grow taller and more intense in color, displaying an ever-darkening array of purple hues at sundown before it turns completely black. Watching the melancholic display of colors in the evening fall sky, you might feel tempted to grab a warm drink and wish for the lonely beauty of the hour to last just a tad longer. Seasons can change so quickly and so subtly that, sometimes, we realize we’re into a completely different season even though we don’t remember the previous one ending. That’s when you might cast your eyes above and finally recognize that the evening sky above your head is turning into shades of dreamy night.

Purple can create a classy, elegant and sophisticated effect all on its own. Purples like Kkumkkuneunbamsaek have been lauded and favored around the world since ancient times as symbols of mystique and nobility. The color, which captures the mood of the changing of the seasons from early autumn to the middle of winter, will perfectly accent your interior design. The color is more muted in effect than it appears at first, so it can be applied onto an entire wall, particularly in spaces like the bedroom, to romantic effect. If you’re not keen on experimenting so boldly with a color like this on your walls, use it to paint a piece of furniture or other interior objects.

What do you think of Samhwa’s choice of the name and colors for November? There’s only one month remaining of this year for Samhwa to announce a new name and matching colors. Stay tuned for a timely update!
