Samhwa begins its Indian operations with paints for car plastics

2019/07/24

Samhwa, now launching operations in India, has established a company in Chennai
for distrbution of car paints for both interior and exterior applications,
responding to Hyundai Motors’ mobility business and developing new opportunities for growth.

Samhwa Paints added a new global subsidiary, established in Chennai in southern India, as part of its efforts to increase its presence on the global market for interior and exterior car paints. Samhwa Paints holds 90 percent of the equity of Samhwa Paints South India Private Limited, with Samhwa Logitech holding the other 10 percent.

Samhwa Logitech, a Korean subsidiary owned outright by Samhwa Paints, specializes in freight transportation. Chennai is a city on the coast of Tamil Nadu in south India and is a major center for commerce and industry, with a significant presence of Korean and international companies, thanks to its vital position on trade routes connecting Europe and Asia. India is the second-largest market for the Hyundai Motor Group, after China. Accordingly, Hyundai intends to turn Chennai into a forward base for its future mobility products and services.

Samhwa decided to establish a subsidiary in Chennai in response to Hyundai’s plans. Samhwa South India will adopt a sales system specializing in car paints and will handle the distribution of car paints for interior and exterior plastic surfaces.

As part of its efforts to ensure future growth, Samhwa will also apply its color research and development capabilities toward helping develop global standard models for Hyundai’s cars. A Samhwa spokesperson explained: “Interior and exterior car paints have been showing the strongest trend for growth in recent years, so we hope increasing our presence abroad will allow us to continue to grow.”

Samhwa earlier established Samhwa Paints India Private Limited in Noida in northern India in 2016 to produce paints for plastic surfaces on consumer electronics. That company, too, has been seeing growth in revenue thanks to overall growth of the Indian economy.
