Wrinkling and lifting
Wrinkling is used to describe when only the top coat detaches itself from the base coat and wrinkles. When the top coat becomes wrinkled from the base coat swelling, this is called lifting. Both phenomena occur when either of the applied coats are too thick, when the top coat dries too quickly and expands relative to the base coat due to error in the mixing ratio of the coats, or when the solvent used for the top coat is strong enough to dissolve the basecoat.
Peeling/peel-off
Paint can peel off the surfaces to which it is applied due to weathering or other factors in the surrounding environment. Paint peels off when external tension is greater than its adhesion to the painting surface. Excessive presence of humidity, dust, and oil can also cause peeling.
Chalking
Occurs when the paint on the given surface is dissolved by UV rays and moisture in the air, losing its water and oil content over time and leaving only pigment behind, which can be rubbed off when touched.
Amine brushing
1) Occurs mostly in epoxy paints, when the hardener in the paint reacts with moisture in the surrounding air, causing the painted finish to lose its gloss and become sticky to the touch. 2) Causes ① Significant differences in day and night temperatures (usually in winter when it takes longer for paint to dry); ② Using fuel-powered heaters in winter.
